Protein protects more than muscle during weight loss
Lede: Adequate protein intake during weight reduction helps preserve lean tissue and can also improve satiety, especially when paired with resistance exercise.
Why it matters
Weight loss is never pure fat loss; some lean mass is usually lost as well. Preserving skeletal muscle matters for strength, function, resting energy expenditure, and long-term weight maintenance. Protein distribution and resistance training therefore belong in the treatment plan, not as bodybuilding advice but as protection against excessive loss of fat-free mass.
The pearl
The goal is not simply to make the scale fall. Aim for preferential fat loss while preserving muscle, function, and metabolic health.
